Permission for an anime poster

Dear editors! I expanded the Hungarian article about hu:Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale, which is now a good article. The only problem is that it doesn't contain any picture, because we cannot use any non-free imagine without permission. I tried to ask permission from Anime Limited and Aniplex, but I didn't get any answer, probably because I cannot reach the right person. Therefore, I'd like to ask help from someone, who would help me to ask permission for the film's poster in Japanese; I would be very grateful. Just in case, please ping me if you answer. Best regards, Bencemac会話2018年2月21日 (水) 18:40 (UTC)[返信]

@Bencemac, well... just use this one instead. スヰートぽい〜 2018年4月12日 (木) 13:19 (UTC)[返信]

@Veracious: We are using the logo already. :) The main problem is that if you take a look, you can see the article is long (which is great), however doesn't contain any illustration except that. Bencemac会話2018年4月12日 (木) 14:51 (UTC)[返信]

@Bencemac: Haha, yeah, i missed the logo, sorry. Can you just upload it "locally"? Like, at here? Because in Indonesian Wikipedia, we just upload it right away (without using WikiCommons). スヰート (ぽい〜) 2018年4月12日 (木) 15:10 (UTC)[返信]
We have to ask permission for every non-free imagine (fair use doesn't applicable on huWiki) and Commons is not suitable in this case, because we wouldn't get permission under free licence. In summary, I cannot use any copyrighted picture without permission. Bencemac会話2018年4月12日 (木) 15:29 (UTC)[返信]
@Bencemac: Hmm, i see... hang on. スヰート (ぽい〜) 2018年4月13日 (金) 04:55 (UTC)[返信]

Getting back to @Bencemac: - How did you ask for permission? Like at Aniplex's contact page? Anime Limited does not seem to be the copyright owner so most probably will not work.--ネイ会話2018年4月14日 (土) 04:27 (UTC)[返信]

The film's and the offical SAO site doesn't have any e-mail address, so first I asked help from the offical Facebook site. After that, I wrote to Aniplex and Anime Limited (UK distribution); I haven't gotten any answer. In Aniplex's case, I used the previously linked contact page. Regards, Bencemac会話2018年4月14日 (土) 12:22 (UTC)[返信]

OK, in that case we might need to file a request in Japanese. Do you have some details on the permission needed for non-free images in huwiki? It is obvious that they will not grant a permission under free license, but we at least want to know what should be the license we ask for.--ネイ会話2018年4月15日 (日) 11:54 (UTC)[返信]
Their answer should contain a statement about that they give us permission for using the picture(s) on the article/Hungarian Wikipedia. In summary, we need a short written permit, which contains „we give you a permit“, „you can use“ or something similar. We would use Jogvédett license, which contains the following English warning: „This image is copyrighted and used here with permission. For the purposes of Wikipedia, this is a non-free licence. You should not copy the file without getting a permission for yourself.“ Thanks your help! Regards, Bencemac会話2018年4月16日 (月) 08:20 (UTC)[返信]

Japanese articles needing translation to English for 420 (Cannabis/Marijuana) collaboration for April?

It's April again, and for the "420 Holiday" WikiProject Cannabis is inviting editors to help expand our coverage of cannabis. We have several articles in Japanese that we lack in English Wikipedia. I'd invite anyone bilingual here to help translate even just the lead of these articles to English so we can expand our coverage of cannabis in Japan.

Meanwhile, if anyone wants to translate any of our many cannabis articles into Japanese, please see en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Cannabis/Popular pages for what are our most popular pages in English, and you can check to see if any of them are lacking in Japanese. If you do any work for the collaboration, please feel free to let us know about your achievement at en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Cannabis/420 Collaboration. May people help me brainstorm a symbol for Asia?

Hi all, I am currently planning to reconstructing a logo for the Wikipedia:ウィキペディア・アジア月間. However, given that Asia is such a big continent, I don't quite know what is the best cultural symbol for Asia. I am thinking about picking an artifact that is representative for at least one asian culture... like a lantern, a cup of tea, silk, etc. So, what do you think is the most representative thing for Asia? By the way there can be multiple things in one logo, so feel free to provide as many cultural symbols as possible.

If we want to treat every culture fairly, then we cannot avoid putting in a lot of symbols, and that will not look good. What about we simply use the shape of Asia continent?--ネイ会話2018年5月19日 (土) 13:27 (UTC)[返信]
「アジア」って「非ヨーロッパ」って概念で、「アジアを統一代表する1つのシンボル」みたいなものは無い、としか言いようがないでしょう。思いつかなくて当然です。逆に言えば、ありとあらゆるものが入り乱れてるのがアジア、って感じなので、ごちゃごちゃしているとアジアっぽいかなあとも思います。--柒月例祭会話2018年5月19日 (土) 13:46 (UTC)[返信]
ありがとうございます。英語訳を試みます。
柒月例祭-san mentioned that, "Asia" is a "non-Europe" concept. It is obvious that one can never think of "a symbol that represents the whole Asia". To put it in another way, everything being jumbled up is the essence of Asia, so having a "jumbled up" logo would feel more like Asia.--ネイ会話2018年5月20日 (日) 03:09 (UTC)[返信]
@燃灯: The Song Wu-kong character was selected due to the year of the monkey, maybe something to do with dog? What about en:komainu or tanuki (en:raccoon dog). The tanuki seem to be native to parts of Korea, China, even Vietnam. In Japan there is a fairy tale about the raccoon dog that transforms into en:chagama or tea kettle (and you can connect it with tea or tea ceremony from China). The Shukaku one-tail beast in en:Naruto is a reference to this, Shukaku being the name of the priest.
Or what about en:Enma-dai-o, who is depicted like an affable Santa Claus in en:Hōzuki no Reitetsu
Or en:goldfish. Maybe you can cleverly draw one that looks like the map of Asia. --Kiyoweap会話2018年5月20日 (日) 00:58 (UTC)[返信]

Portuguese hymn

Hi all,
I see that the WP:ja page about Portugal's hymn A Portuguesa is entitled ア・ポルトゥゲーザ. However, A Portuguesa is pronounced [ɐ puɾtuˈɣezɐ] in Portuguese, so why isn't it transcribed as ア・プルトゥゲーザ, with a プ instead of a ポ? Thank you in advance for your answer. Best regards, SenseiAC会話2018年5月14日 (月) 01:17 (UTC)[返信]

コメント According to the talk page of the article, this song has many Japanese-translated titles, such as "ア・ポルトゥゲーザ", "ポルトゲーザ", "ポルトガルの歌" (the song of Portugal), etc, but no title use "プ" instead of "ポ". The translated-title "ア・ポルトゥゲーザ" has reliable sources, and the reliable sources are more important for the article titles than the accuracy of pronounciation. In addition, it is difficult for Japanese language to transcribe Europian languages' pronunciation, and Japanese pronunciation "ウ" and "オ" aren't corresponded with "u" and "o" completely. "ア・ポルトゥゲーザ" is easy for us to understand that it relates to Poutugal.--SilverSpeech会話2018年5月14日 (月) 05:08 (UTC)[返信]

コメント @SenseiAC: Asian people tend to spell "o" as "o" (almost no change), unlike European / American people that spells "o" as either "o" (port, board, own) or "u" (two, too, soon) or even "a" (how, now, wow). スヰート (ぽい〜) 2018年9月14日 (金) 03:58 (UTC)[返信]

Question about katakana for American place names

I’ve been reviewing several articles about my home state in the US, and have come upon some inconsistencies. I’ve been using other Wikipedia Japan articles and Google Maps transcriptions as a guide. Should American spelling take priority over pronunciation? For example, the city of en:Vienna, South Dakota would normally be ヴィエンナ, but it is pronounced in South Dakota as ヴァイエンナ. en:Minnewauken, North Dakota is shown on here as ミニューオーカーン, but is pronounced ミネワォーカン similar to ミネアポリス (Minneapolis). Any advice on this subject would be appreciated.dcmacnut会話2018年5月28日 (月) 01:00 (UTC)[返信]

返信 (dcmacnut宛) In jawp, Japanese common spelling often take priority over local pronunciation, but local spelling never. Some editors use local spellings when they don't know local pronunciations. In such cases, please show references of local pronunciation at the talk page to correct spellings. You can correct such spellings except for those commonly used in Japanese. --SilverSpeech会話2018年5月28日 (月) 03:49 (UTC)[返信]

返信 (dcmacnut宛) Generally, YouTube video is not reliable source enough to edit an article, but you can use it to explain why you want to edit. If you don't have more reliable sources, such as English dictionaries, please use Template:訳語疑問点 or Template:訳語疑問点範囲. We use these templates when we find a sentence or words that may be translated incorrectly. Please explain at the edit summary or the talk page why you use these templates.--SilverSpeech会話2018年6月5日 (火) 07:10 (UTC)[返信]

Chūnibyō

In the English Wikipedia, Chūnibyō (中二病) currently redirects to Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions (中二病でも恋がしたい!). At the top of the redirect target, there's a hatnote that direct readers to go to Glossary of anime and manga for the actual definition of 中二病, but there's not a single definition about it, actually.

I'm going to find any suitable source about Chūnibyō so I can at least put a short definition, but I definitely need your assistance. JSH-alive/talk/cont/mail 2018年6月27日 (水) 13:08 (UTC)[返信]

Can you help us on a research project about translations?

Hello!

I am Trizek and I work for the Wikimedia Foundation.

I'm helping the Research team find people who can help them. This team is working on an algorithm to help with translation. And we are desperately looking for translators from Japanese to Arabic, English, Spanish, French and Russian to complete the work.

We have created a small tool that looks like a game: https://gapfinder-tools.wmflabs.org/section-alignment. After choosing two languages, translators are able to type possible translations of the displayed section title. Multiple translations can be submitted. Those translations will feed an algorithm that would help more people to translate and create articles.

We know it is a lot of work to translate, and we hope anyone can help us, even with a few submissions. Can you help us by making translations, or share this tool with other users who could help us?

Thank you very much in advance for your help! Trizek (WMF)会話2018年7月6日 (金) 12:32 (UTC)[返信]

キエフ Kiev and Pogoda.ru is wrong

Good Day キエフ Kiev - this is the Russian occupational nickname of the Ukrainian city. It was created by the Russians during the Russian Empire. Then the Russians turned the military alliance of 1654 into the occupation and destruction of Ukrainians as a people. Please stop using the Russian occupation nickname kIEV. The Russians infected this map with the world map. Ukraine became an independent state and freed from Russian and Russian-Soviet occupation.Real name Kyiv It's time for the Japanese language to use real Ukrainian names. Ukraine is no longer a Russian province. Please start the process of replacing Soviet translations with new ones, which are based on Ukrainian real names.

Pogoda.ru this is a Russian site. Since Russia annexed 7 percent of the Ukrainian territory in 2014 (Crimea and russian separatism in Donetsk Oblast, Luhansk oblast) - the use of this site is not correct. You can not use the site of the state, which is involved in the murder of 11,200 Ukrainians in the east of Ukraine. Please remove the site of the aggressor country of the Ukrainian territory.--Bohdan Bondar会話2018年7月8日 (日) 12:35 (UTC)[返信]

In addition, in 2008, Japanese users discussed the title of the article at the talk page, but they couldn't determine the suitable spelling of Ukrainian "Kyiv" in Japanese. Bedeutung des Wortes Benibotarus/Meaning of a word Benibotarus

Der Japaner Hiromichi Kôno nennt eine Käfergattung Benibotarus hier auf S. 56. Hat das Wort eine Bedeutung? (im Deutschen nicht). The Japanese Hiromichi Kôno gives the name Benibotarus to a new genus of beetles here on page 56. Does that name mean anything (perhaps two rows, or net or something alike). I don't have much knowledge on insects but I can easily tell Benibotarus is from benibotaru, which are lycidae in Latin and Rotdeckenkäfer in German. Benibotaru is the compound word from beni(crimson red) and hotaru(firefly or Leuchtkäfer). In Japanese, word-beginning h is very often changed into b sound in the middle of the compound. --Ryota7906会話2018年7月12日 (木) 20:12 (UTC)[返信]

Duplicate article

Dear members of the Japanese-language Wikipedia, I have noticed that you have two different articles for a same subject: カセグレン式望遠鏡 and カセグレン焦点, that both concern the Cassegrain telescope. Could you please confirm me that they are indeed duplicate and, in this case, could you please merge these two articles into a single one? My request actually comes from the fact that you, along with two other Wikipedias (the Arabic-language and Catalan-language Wikipedias), have two articles on this subject, that are therefore on two different Wikidata pages, and that therefore prevent the merging of these two Wikidata pages dealing with the same subject, therefore breaking many connections between the different languages. I thank you in advance for your help. Best regards, SenseiAC会話2018年8月26日 (日) 17:11 (UTC)[返信]
