Summary: Marion Winifred Sheahan, R.N. (1892-1994) was Executive Director of the National Committee for the Improvement of Nursing Services when she was honored with a 1949 Lasker Award from the American Public Health Association. A pioneer in public health nursing, mobilizing efforts during World War II, on the home front and front lines, she had worked in New York settlements and as a family health counselor and director of public health nursing in New York. A graduate of St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, she served as president of the National Organization for Public Health Nursing, 1944-46, and was instrumental in changing the licensing requirements for public health nurses
