This is the proof of concept Naval MiG-29 variant, known as the ‘Korotkii Vzlet i Posadka’ (KVP) which translates as "short take-off & landing". It had stronger undercarriage and a reinforced rear fuselage with an arrestor hook. It undertook ‘ski-jump’ trials but a larger wing area was required and the final Naval ‘K’ variant was instead derived from the MiG-29M or ‘9-15’ which had a larger, folding, wing.
Previously part of the adjacent Zhukovski Engineering Academy, this development aircraft is now on display at the Central Air Force museum, Monino, Moscow Oblast, Russia.
