English: Drawing of the 'Arcus Einhardi', probably the silver foot of a crux gemmata (reliquary cross decorated with gems) formerly in the Treasury of the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht (lost since the 18th c.). Drawing by unknown artist, 17th c, now in the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris. Detail of central part of the drawing, depicting on the inside of the arch a Roman horseman (perhaps Louis de Pious) trampling and piercing a dragon. On the front of the arch two holy Roman soldiers (both with nimbus) with lances and shields, one of them trampling and piercing a dragon or snake. Above the arch a Greek cross. In the corners of the arch the two evangelists with their respective symbols: Saint Mark (winged lion) and Saint Luke (winged ox).
