Super Sabre 54-2239 served as a gate guard at Bitburg (Germany) in the 1980s and 90s until the base closed in 1994. FW-239 started its career in the USAF with the 388th FBW in France until its nose wheel collapsed during landing at Wheelus (Libya) in 1957.
It was repaired and transferred to the French Air Force. After retirement in 1977 it went to Sculthorpe (England) and was loaned to a museum at East Midlands. When that museum closed in 1978, FW-239 was brought to Bitburg and became the gate guard.
It has been preserved (in bad condition) at the Musée des ailes anciennes, Toulouse (France) since 1995.
