English: Eleven unknown British soldiers of the Second World War (technically they are missing in action) buried in Rhodes war cemetery, Greece. Note that the grave on the front left contains the remains of 2 soldiers. As a general rule, multiple occupancy graves are only ever used in British war cemeteries in situations where two or more bodies have become intermingled e.g. blown to pieces in an explosion or severely burned in a fire. The year the 2 soldiers died (i.e. 1944) has been inscribed on the tombstone. This is part of a policy of providing the maximum possible amount of information available re. unknown service personnel e.g. nationality, regiment and/or rank etc.
