アーサー・ガーディナー・バトラー

Arthur Gardiner Butler

アーサー・ガーディナー・バトラー（Arthur Gardiner Butler、1844年6月27日 - 1925年5月28日）は、イギリスの昆虫学者、クモ学者、鳥類学者である。大英博物館で鳥類、昆虫、クモ類の分類学を研究した。

生涯

ロンドンで生まれた。父親のトーマス・バトラーも大英博物館の職員であった。セントポールの学校で教育を受けた後、サウスケンジントン・アート・スクールで一年間、美術の教育を受けた。 1863年から健康の悪化により1901年に引退するまで、大英博物館で働いた。 1879年に節足動物部門、1895年に昆虫部門のアシスタントキュレーターとなった。昆虫の分野の功績から1893年にWestern University of Pennsylvaniaから名誉博士号を受けた。クモ類学の分野ではオーストラリア、ガラパゴス諸島、マダガスカルのクモの研究で知られる。
