スーダンのロストボーイズ

スーダンのロストボーイズとは、第二次スーダン内戦時（1983年〜2005年）に、住んでいた場所を追われて孤児となった、スーダン南部のヌエル族やディンカ族の少年たちの集団の呼び名である。この内戦で約二百五十万人の南部住人が殺され、数百万人が居住地を追われた。「ロストボーイズ」の名は、子どもたちが避難生活を送っていたケニアやエチオピアの難民キャンプで、職員たちからそう呼ばれたことに由来する。この名は、南スーダンの独立後、2011年〜2013年に起きたスーダンとの国境紛争から逃れた子どもたちにも、再度使用された。

経緯

2005年、スーダン北部と南部の間で包括和平合意が結ばれ、ロストボーイズ、ロストガールズ、世界各地に離散したスーダン人が、故郷に帰ることが許された。それにより多くの人々がスーダン南部に戻り、戦争で破壊された故郷の再建にかかわった。2011年１月、人道的支援により、南スーダン独立を問う住民投票があり、98.83%（投票率97.58%）の賛成で北部スーダンと分離し、南スーダン共和国ができた。アメリカに移住した元ロストボーイズ、ロストガールズの中には、現在の南スーダン政府で要職に就く者たちが数多くいる。
