高橋康治・沢崎順之介訳の『ルイス・キャロル詩集』ちくま文庫版の278ページの注釈には、「ルイス・キャロル自身はスネークを、スネイル（かたつむり）とシャーク（さめ）の『カバン語』であると語っていたらしいが」とありますが、スナークの語源についてルイス・キャロル自身が明確な説明を与えた一次資料は存在しない筈です。一応、マーティン・ガードナーはスナークの語源について、snail + shark、snake + shark、snarl + bark等の説を提示しています。--Kasuga 2008年6月15日 (日) 13:57 (UTC)

An external link for The Hunting of Snark

Hello DL5MDA, I don't oppose your hypothesis of The Hunting of the Snark. However, we can't use the site supporting a specific hypothesis as an external source when we can use other neutral sites, even if you undisplay new images by the argument. By the way, I want to ask you a question. Is that site yours? You should not add your own site as a reference site in Japanese Wikipedia. It is considered to be an advertising yourself.
