The discovery of Mike Havelaar, ハーフナー・マイク
[編集]Hello,
First of all, I'm sorry I write this in English, because my Japanese is quite bad actually...
It's this I want you to ask you about: I was just looking around at Wikipedia and more or less accidentally I came at the article of Yokohama F-Marinos. And when I checked the squad list, I was surprised to see a Dutchman on it. Namely; Mike Havenaar (ハーフナー・マイク). Maybe it isn't that coincidental that there is a Dutchman playing in the J-League (also Patrick Zwaanswijk and Željko Petrović played in Japan. Petrović is, in my opinion, a little bit Dutch), but I've never heard of him. And when I looked at the F-Marinos website, he seems to be half Japanese and also very young (May 20th 1987, I thought I discoverd). I find it also funny that I discoverd him, because I am a Dutchman myself as well. So, my question is: Who could tell me more about Mike, so I can write an article about him at the Dutch Wikipedia. And is it true that he is a son of a Dutchman (Dido Havenaar (ディド・ハーフナー) obviously?) and a Japanese mother? That was my impression. And was he born on the 20th May 1987? In Hiroshima, I suppose?
I hope that someone can help me with it. If you'd like to contact me about this, please leave a message at my discussion page.

He isn't half Japanese. Both of his parents are ethnically Dutch and have Japanese citizenship. Mike is also a Japanese citizen, so he is currently an U-19 Japanese international. Yes, his father is Dido Havenaar. Mike was born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan. He can speak Japanese, Dutch and English. His birthday is May 20th (1987). You are right.
He made his debut in J-League this year.
Because his father also played in the league, they are the second father and son pair to play in J-League.
- He isn't half Japanese?! Allright, that's odd. He seems a bit Japanese to me on the picture on the Marinos website. But if you say he isn't, i'll believe you. And what about the qualities of Mike? He is a forward, I allready discoverd. But is he (only) a striker? Or can he play at the wing as well? And what is his preferred foot? And can you estimate his potential? And can you give me more details about his (football) qualities?
Thank you very much for your help and information indeed. If I can help you with anything in the future, please contact me!
