マイケル・スロート

マイケル・スロート（Michael A. Slote）は、マイアミ大学の倫理学教授。著書多数。

メリーランド大学とトリニティ・カレッジ・ダブリンの哲学教授を歴任。ハーバード大学で博士号を取得。

徳倫理学は、特にケアの倫理の概念を引き継いだ形式をとる場合、義務論、功利主義、そして常識的な道徳に対して、直観的かつ構造的な利点を大いに提供するものだと、スロートは主張している。また最近では、道徳的合理主義に対抗して、道徳的感情主義（moral sentimentalism）というメタ倫理学的立場も支持している（2003、2004、2005aの論文および著書（2007、2010）を参照）。

近年は、感情主義に関する研究を心の哲学へと拡張している（著書2014）。また、最新作では、徳、価値、心理的特性としての受容性（receptivity）の重要性を強調している（2014の論文、2013の著書）。受容性の重要性は、1984年にネル・ノディングスによって初めて考察されたが、ケアの倫理においてそれ以上に注目されることはなく、典型的な西洋哲学的価値観を批判するために援用されることもなかった。彼は『完全性の不可能性（Impossibility of Perfection）』において、アリストテレスや啓蒙主義によって支持された道徳的完全性に対抗し、道徳的問題についてのより現実的な見方を擁護している
