Wall Poems (オランダ語: Muurgedichten, alternatively Gedichten op muren or Dicht op de Muur)とはオランダのライデンの街の外壁に様々な言語で書かれた110以上の詩を描くプロジェクトである[1][2][3]。
History and description[編集]
The Wall Poems project was partly funded by the private Tegen-Beeld foundation of Ben Walenkamp and Jan Willem Bruins, the project's two artists, with additional funding from several corporations and the city of Leiden.[2][4] It began in 1992 with a poem in Russian by Marina Tsvetaeva and (temporarily) finished in 2005 with the Spanish poem De Profundis by Federico García Lorca.[4] Other poets included in the set include E. E. Cummings, Langston Hughes, Jan Hanlo, Du Fu, Louis Oliver, Pablo Neruda, Rainer Maria Rilke, William Shakespeare, and W. B. Yeats,[3][5] as well as local writers Piet Paaltjens and J. C. Bloem.[4] One of the more obscure poems in the collection is written in the Buginese language on a canal wall near the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies; it and many of the other poems are accompanied by plaques with translations into Dutch and English.[2]

A guide available on the web describes a walking tour for visitors to Leiden that takes in 25 of the 101 poems.[6] The first 43 poems have been collected in a book by Marleen van der Weij, Dicht op de muur: gedichten in Leiden, and the rest are described in a second volume, published in 2005.[7]

影響[編集]
ライデンでのプロジェクトの成功に基づいて、壁の詩がオランダの各地で描かれている[8][9]。2004年にはブルガリアのドイツ大使館がソフィアで類似したプロジェクトを打ち出し[10]、2012年、the Tegen-Beeld foundation collaborated with the International Society of Friends of Rimbaud to paint a poem by Arthur Rimbaud, "Le Bateau ivre", on a government building in the 6th arrondissement of Paris.[11] In 2012 a poem by Marsman was painted on a wall in Berlin.

Bill Gates designed and owns a mansion that overlooks Lake Washington in Medina, Washington. The 66,000-平方フート (6,100 m2) mansion[4] incorporates technology in its design.Template:Specify[5]
In 2009, property taxes were reported to be US$1.063 million on a total assessed value of US$147.5 million.[6]
Design and features[編集]
The house was designed collaboratively by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and Cutler-Anderson Architects of Bainbridge Island, Washington.[7][8][9]
The mansion is a modern design in the Pacific lodge style, with classic features such as a private library with a dome-shaped roof and oculus.[10][11] The house features an estate-wide server system, a 60-フート (18 m) swimming pool with an underwater music system, a 2,500-平方フート (230 m2) gym, and a 1,000-平方フート (93 m2) dining room.[12]
There are six kitchens and 24 bathrooms, ten of which contain bathtubs.[13]
In popular culture[編集]
The house was made fun of in Dilbert in January 1997 when the lead character was forced to become a towel boy after his failure to read an end-user license agreement over purchased Microsoft software.[14] Some online news articles call the house Xanadu 2.0, a reference to the motion picture Citizen Kane, which was itself a reference to the opening lines of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's classic poem Kubla Khan.[15][16]
