マレイ・ゴールドバーグ（Murray Goldberg、1962年10月生まれ）は、カナダの著名な教育技術者で、ブリティッシュコロンビア大学（UBC）コンピュータサイエンス学部の教員である。eラーニング企業WebCT、Brainify、Silicon Chalk、AssociCom、Marine Learning Systemsの創設者として知られている。

経歴[編集]

カナダのアルバータ州カルガリーで生まれ、エドモントンで育った。1980年にビクトリア大学に入学するため、ブリティッシュ・コロンビア州に移る。1985年にビクトリア大学を卒業後、ブリティッシュ・コロンビア大学で修士号を取得した。2004年にはサザンクロス大学から名誉博士号を授与された[1]。さまざまな企業の取締役を務めるほか、カリフォルニア州クレアモントにあるハーベイ・マッド・カレッジの評議員を務め、カリフォルニア州レッドウッドシティにあるGSVラボの技術インキュベーターでメンターを務め、eラーニングの未来に関するコンサルタントや講演者としても活躍している。また、マニング・イノベーション賞のブリティッシュ・コロンビア支部長も務めている。

ブリティッシュコロンビア大学[編集]

1993年にUBCのコンピュータサイエンス学部の教員として着任し、1998年に同学部で終身在職権を獲得した[2]。1994 年、UBC の教員としての最初の年に、ゴールドバーグは UBC でキリアム教育賞を受賞した[3]。ゴールドバーグは1998年にUBCを休職し、フルタイムでWebCTを率いるようになった[4]。

WebCT[編集]

1995年、UBCの教員であったゴールドバーグは、ウェブベースの学習環境の有効性を研究していた[5][6]。ゴールドバーグは、この実験のためにコースを構築する経験が十分に時間と費用がかかることに気づき、ウェブベースの学習環境を簡単かつ迅速に作成できるプラットフォーム、WebCTを作ることを決意した,[7][8]。 WebCTは、1997年から加速した世界的なオンライン学習ブームの触媒として広く受け入れられた[9]。2000年11月までに、WebCTは57カ国で600万人の学生にサービスを提供し[9]、2001年後半には80カ国、2250の大学やカレッジで1,000万人の学生にサービスを提供したと言われている[10]。1999年、ゴールドバーグはWebCTの株式の大半をボストンに拠点を置くユニバーサル・ラーニング・テクノロジーに売却し、統合された同社はWebCTの名を冠した[11][12]。ゴールドバーグは、2002 年にシリコン チョークを共同設立するために退職するまで、WebCT のカナダ部門の社長を務めた。

Silicon Chalk[編集]

2002年、ゴールドバーグはシリコン・チョーク社を共同設立し、社長兼CEOを務めた[13]。シリコン・チョーク社は、ラップトップやコンピュータを使用する高等教育の教室で使用するソフトウェアを開発した。このソフトウェアは、教室でのプレゼンテーションの録画、学生のノートテイク、投票、ファイル共有、その他の機能を容易にした[14]。同社は広範な成功を収めることはなかったが、Horizon Wimbaに売却された時点で70の大学やカレッジにユーザーを抱えていた[15]。

Brainify[編集]

2007年、ゴールドバーグは、大学や専門学校の学生や教授のためのアカデミックなソーシャルブックマーク・ネットワーキングサイトである Brainify(website),の制作を開始した[16]。立ち上げから20日以内に250の機関からメンバーが参加した[17]。

AssociCom[編集]

2010年6月、ゴールドバーグはAssociCom (website)を立ち上げた。AssociComは、専門家団体や協会内での会員の発見、学習、つながりを可能にすることに重点を置いた、専門家のネットワーキングと発見のプラットフォームである[18]。

Marine Learning Systems[編集]

また2010年、マレーはマリン・ラーニング・システムズ社（Marine Learning Systems (website)）を設立した。同社の製品MarineLMSは、海事産業におけるトレーニングのための学習管理システムで、BCフェリーブリティッシュ・コロンビア・フェリーサービスが最初の顧客である[19]。

  • 2011 - Murray Goldberg named as one of the top 15 Canadians in Digital Media [20]
  • 2004 - Murray Goldberg awarded the $100,000 National Manning Innovation Awards Principal Award for Innovation. This is a National award, awarded once per year for innovation in any human endeavor Award video can be found here.
  • 2004 - Murray Goldberg granted an Honorary Ph.D., Southern Cross University, Gold Coast, Australia[21]
  • 2001 – Murray Goldberg awarded the New Media Hyperion Award. This award for excellence is awarded annually to those who have made a significant contribution in the creation or development of software tools, hardware or connectivity innovations.
  • 2000 – Murray Goldberg awarded the National CANARIE IWAY Award. This is a national award, awarded to nominees who have pioneered innovative uses of technology related to the development of Canada's information highway.[22]
  • 1994 - Murray Goldberg awarded the "Killiam Teaching Prize". These prizes, accompanied by a monetary award, are given annually at UBC to a small number of faculty members who have exhibited excellence in teaching.[23]
