Makoto Kitazawa (born February 9, 1988, in Kyoto, Japan) is a Japanese landscape artist and designer.
He graduated from the Department of Urban Systems Engineering at Ritsumeikan University’s College of Science and Engineering and holds a first-class certification as a landscape gardener. He is also the third-generation head of Kitazawa Landscaping, a family business established in 1960, known for specializing in Kitayama cedar.
Personal Background
[編集]At the age of 15, Makoto Kitazawa first felt inspired to become a landscape gardener after witnessing the transformation of an empty space into a completed garden, created by his father. After graduating from university, he began his training under his father. At 25, he set the ambitious goal of winning three awards in his twenties, and successfully achieved it. Today, his work extends not only throughout Japan but also to countries like the United States, Brazil, Singapore, and China.
The central theme of his spatial art, which revolves around gardens, is “the beautiful symbiosis between nature and humanity.” His site-specific creations range from temples and shrines to private residences and hotels. Guided by his innate instincts and a wild, primal sense, Kitazawa seeks to craft beautiful spaces that reintroduce the overwhelming sensory experience of nature, which modern life has gradually eroded.
