『Commander Keen』（コマンダー・キーン） is a series of video games developed by id Software in the early 1990s for MS-DOS. Most of the games were distributed as shareware and published by Apogee Software, more commonly known by its brand 3D Realms today. Almost a decade after the last game of the series, a Commander Keen game developed by David A. Palmer Productions was released in 2001 for the Game Boy Color. The plot of the games centers around the adventures of the young boy 『ビリー・ブレイズ』（Billy Blaze） alias Commander Keen and his quests to save the universe.

ストーリー[編集]

The series' protagonist is the eight-year old boy genius Billy Blaze, who has an IQ of 314. He constructed a spaceship in his backyard, which allows him to travel easily from one planet to another, and many other inventions. When his parents are out and his babysitter falls asleep, Billy dons his brother's Packers helmet and becomes 『コマンダー・キーン - 地球の保護者』（Commander Keen - defender of Earth）.

Commander Keen has to thwahrt the plots of Mortimer McMire, a boy of the same age who has an IQ of 315. Billy and Mortimer know each other from their everyday life. It isn't revealed that Mortimer is the brain behind the crimes until the end of the third episode. Mortimer usually teams up with several alien races or enslaves them, and is called 『The Grand Intellect』 by his minions. His plans involve destroying the earth, the galaxy, and, finally, even the whole universe. The motive behind his plans is that Mortimer believes himself to be the most intelligent being in the universe, and no else deserves to life because of that. His ultimate goal is to destroy everything because everything is stupid in his opinion. In order to stop Mortimer's plots, Commander Keen has to explore foreign planets, spaceships and space stations and to defeat the minions of his archenemy. Keen does never confront Mortimer himself in the games.
