ジャマイカ[編集]

サンディは、ハリケーン・ギルバート以来、24年ぶりにジャマイカを襲ったハリケーンだった。木や電線が倒れ、小屋は極度の風と洪水により被害を受けた。100人を超える漁師が、ジャマイカ南海岸沖のペドロ諸島を横断する際に座礁した[15]。キングストン近くの農村では、家に入ろうとした人が斜面からの落石により圧死した[16]。国内唯一の電力供給者であるジャマイカ公益会社は、必要な電力の70%はないと報告した。1,000人以上が避難所へ避難した。ジャマイカ政府は、島の国際空港を閉鎖し、主要都市では警察が、人々を通りへ近づかせず、略奪を防止するため、48時間に及ぶ外出禁止令を出した[17]。島の東部のほとんどの建物は屋根を失った[18]。損害は国内で5,523万$にものぼった[12]。

イスパニョーラ島[編集]

2010年に大地震が発生し、コレラが流行していたハイチでは、少なくとも54人が死亡した[4]。また、推定約200,000人がサンディによる4日間の雨の結果、10月29日（月曜日）時点で家を失った[19]。ポール＝サリューでは、川が銀行へ氾濫し、重大な損害が生じた[20]。首都ポルトープランスでは、大通が大雨によって氾濫し、「全国の南は水面下にある」と報告された[21]。都市部の難民キャンプやシテ・ソレイユ周辺では、ハリケーン・アイザックの襲来時と同じく、川が氾濫し浸水した[18]。作物も嵐により、徹底的に破壊され、国は緊急援助を要請した[22]。ハイチでの損害は、7,400万$と見積もられる（2012年USD）[5]。

隣国のドミニカ共和国では、2人が死亡し、3万人が避難した[1]。CNNは、サントドミンゴの通りの7割が氾濫していると推測した[23]。また、プエルトリコのファナ・ディアスでは、増水した川に流され、1人が死亡している[1]。

少なくとも5万5千人がハリケーン・サンディ到来前に避難した[28]。暴風により高さ29フィート（9m）の波が発生し、6フィート（2m）の高潮も起こって、海岸では広範囲が浸水した[29]。広範囲で被害が生じ、特にサンティアーゴ・デ・クーバでは132,733軒（15,322軒が破壊され、43,426軒が屋根を飛ばされた）が被害を受けた[7]。電気や水道も止まり、都市のほとんどの木が倒れた。サンティアーゴ・デ・クーバ州での総被害額は20億ドルと推定される（2012年USD）[8]。サンディにより、国内で11人が死亡した。うち9人はサンティアーゴ・デ・クーバ州、2人はグァンタナモ州。ほとんどの犠牲者は、破壊された家の下敷きとなった[30][31]。16人が死亡したハリケーン・デニス以来、サンディはキューバを襲った最も致命的なハリケーンである[32]。

バハマ[編集]

グランド・バハマ島セトルメント・ポイントにあるNOAAステーションでは、49mph（74㎞/h）の持続する風と63mph（102㎞/h）の突風を観測した[33]。1人は、ニュー・プロビデンスのレイフォード・ケイで窓のシャッターの修理を試みている間に、衰弱死した。ほかに、グランド・バハマ島クイーンズ・コーブでは、大波によってアパートにいた人が溺死している[1]。バハマ諸島の一部では、ビミニでの停電などが生じ、電力や携帯電話が使用不能となった。ウィリアムズ・タウン近くの家5軒は、激しい被害を受けた[34]。
