[編集]Yoyogi International School (YIS) is an international school located in Yoyogi, Shibuya, Tokyo. It offers programs for early childhood and elementary education, providing an international curriculum in a multicultural environment. The school emphasizes small class sizes and individualized teaching, with English as the primary language of instruction. Students receive education aimed not only at academic achievement but also at developing social and cultural skills.
YIS is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), which focuses on fostering inquiry-based learning and developing globally minded students.
In the spring of 2025, YIS will relocate to a new campus on the 9th and 10th floors of the Japan Amway Headquarters building.
History
[編集]Yoyogi International School (YIS) was founded in 2000 by Yuko Muir. Initially established as a small preschool, the school aimed to provide high-quality education to the multicultural community in the area. Over the years, it expanded its programs to include elementary education in response to growing demand, accommodating a wider range of age groups from early childhood to elementary levels. YIS has adopted internationally recognized educational frameworks, such as the International Baccalaureate (IB), and has continued to grow as a space where students from diverse backgrounds learn together.
