Deleting files that are also on Commons

Hi. I have no idea. The speedy deletion of "ファイル1-5" needs for administrators to check whether the file is imported appropriately. I think this task have to be done manually one by one. Even if the task can be automated, I don't know that page deletion can be done by bot. One request for you. Strictly speaking, the speedy deletion of "ファイル1-5" requires that you must inform the original uploaders of that you have exported the files to Commons and you have requested the speedy deletion. Hi! It is possible to delete files with a bot. But it should only be done if the files have been checked.

I prepare the files before I move them to Commons. I move them with FileImporter so all information is copied to Commons. Also old versions of file history.

I have checked if the uploaders are still active. 2 uploaders have not edited on Wikipedia for many years and one that is still active said Yes please for me to move the files to Commons. No problem with notices. I will just make notices regardless if uploader is active or not.

Could I ask you to take a look at Template‐ノート:NowCommons#Suggest_2_new_links? I would like to put files with the same name on ja.wikipedia and Commons in one category and the files with a different name in another category. It is much easier to delete files with the same name because you do not have to worry if all usage have been changed. I do not speak Japanese so I do not know if Google Translate gave me a good suggestion for a name for categories.

I have created redirects on Commons for most of the files where the name is not the same. That should reduce the risk of errors if the local file is still in use when deleted.

As for the license update of GFDL I was the one that relicensed most of the files on Commons and English Wikipedia so I have fixed perhaps 800,000 files. But I do have a question about the disclaimers at Template‐ノート:GFDL#Subject_to_disclaimers_-_what_is_the_status. Perhaps you can help there too? I think that it should be possible to fix most of the license update with a bot. If you would like to automate the deletion of files that have been moved to Commons it might be a good idea to either

add a template like en:Template:Keep local or to
change NowCommons so it is possible to mark files where uploader want to keep the file.

I changed the template on lv.wiki (lv:Veidne:NowCommons) so it looks like this:

This file can be deleted: lv:Attēls:Aģe pie Zvejniekciema.jpg
This file should be kept: lv:Attēls:Krisjanis Barons grave.JPG

Notice the file that should be kept show this icon File:Fairytale_Trash_No.svg and the files go in a separate category. The category is still red because I asked someone if they liked the idea but they have not replied yet. Hi! While we wait for the bot to finish working on the GFDL files perhaps you could have a look at my suggestion at the NowCommons template? The "Category:Keep local same name" and "Category:Keep local other name" should be translated to Japanese. Or perhaps its enough just to have 1 "Category:Keep local". In the first place, Japanese Wikipedia dose not have the policy that exclude the speedy deletion of copied file in accordance with the uploader's personal request. Off course, legal issue can be the reason that the file is excluded from speedy deletion. Hmmm. Thank you. I thought there was such a policy and that is the reason why {{NowCommons}} alone is not a good reason to delete. Any other wiki I know delete files once a NowCommons is added. For example almost all files uploaded by Saigen Jiro are moved to Commons (about 1,150 files) but user asked that files were not deleted. Non-free files

Hi!

The templates {{self屋外美術}} and {{屋外美術}} are used to files that shows a copyrighted work. The files are placed in Category:屋外美術を含む画像.

The files are not actually free so I think that having them on ja.wiki is a bit similar to fair use. Therefore I think that files should be deleted if they are not in use.

I made this list on files not used in articles. I do not know how it works on ja.wiki but perhaps you could have a look and see if you also think that the files should be deleted?

Category:日本ではパブリックドメインにあり、米国でパブリックドメインにない画像 is another category for non-free files. It contains pictures that are public domain in Japan law but still copyrighted in US law.

ファイル:Bandicam 2016-09-29 14-12-25-665.jpg is a complicated case. The author of the file stated in Twitter that the picture can be used in Wikipedia, but did not say which license is applied. --Yapparina（会話） 2020年8月1日 (土) 12:46 (UTC)[返信]

Hi! This category Category:機械的に読み取れる出典がないファイル can be deleted. The files are now in Category:機械的に読み取れる情報源がないファイル.

2) These files are uploaded after August 1, 2009 so they are special in relation to the license update:

I think the "problems" have been solved on Commons. Some are marked as "not-eligible" on Commons. In other cases the solution was to split up the files on Commons so old version has one file name and new version have another file name. And in some cases the file has just been cropped or edited a bit. I do not think the changes are so big that it qualify for a new copyright.

So in short I think the local files can be deleted. But I list them here because I think they need an admin that speaks English and also know about the license update. 5) There are no more files in Category:GFDL画像 and that means that all the files that needs to be changed to GFDL-ja have been changed. Unless there are som files licensed GFDL that are not in that category. But we can fix that if/when we find that.

So now you can move {{GFDL}} to {{GFDL-ja}}. I made a few changes in the template.

a) I added the files to another category so that files with disclaimers go in another category than those without disclaimers. I will let you decide if we need a separate category.

b) I also added some code for license migration so it works with the "migration=relicense" that is used on en.wiki and Commons. It works. Sort of. There are some problems if the license is used in a {{self}}. So to fix it we need some code and templates from en.wiki for example en:Template:License migration. I do not think that we need all the templates. I would for example just move those that is "migration=not-eligible" to Commons and delete the file locally. So it should be enough to put them the right category without adding a template.

Great! Now all the problems with disclaimers are fixed. Only issue is if some of the files should not have had disclaimers in the first place. Unless I can get a clear answer that "Files uploaded before/after <some date> should not have disclaimers" then I will not change anything. Thanks for the help! Hi! I noticed that ファイル:Japan map.png and many other files use {{Japan map}}. According to Google Translation it seems like the file is licensed GFDL but for some reason it does not include the license template {{GFDL}}.

I can see that there have been a long discussion about the file and the license but Google Translate does not translate correct so sometimes it makes no sense.

The way I see it there are 2 options:

The file is NOT licensed GFDL and the file does therefore not have a valid license. That means the file and all the 4,000 files that are made based on the file should be deleted.
The file IS licensed GFDL and the file does therefore have a valid license. We should add a formal license tak and we just have to find out if the file has disclaimers or not. I see no disclaimers mentioned so I would choose {{GFDL}} and not {{GFDL-ja}}.

I have made room on Commons so ファイル:Japan map.png can be moved to c:File:Japan map.png. There is a redirect there atm. but that can be deleted. But I will not move the file unless I'm sure it has a valid license. --MGA73（会話） 2020年8月30日 (日) 10:28 (UTC)[返信]

Category:即時削除対象のページ

Hi! I noticed that there are many files in that category. I wonder if it is because admins are busy with other things or it is because admins do not agree with deletion. I noticed some files are marked for deletion because of "no source". On Commons we have kept some old files with for example {{PD-self}} unless we have reason to suspect that they were not own work.
