NoCopyrightSoundsは、著作権フリーの音楽をリリースするイギリスの音楽組織およびレコードレーベル[7]。NCSとも呼ばれる。

沿革

NCSは2011年に"熱心なゲーマー"[8]ことビリー・ウッドフォードによってYouTubeチャンネルとして創業[9][10]。フォーブス誌に「コンテンツ所有者にクレジットを返済する限り、クリエイターが音楽を自由に使用して収益化することを可能にするYouTube初のラベル」と記載される[11][12][13]。

2017年、NCSは無料で音楽をリリースしたにもかかわらず、デジタルダウンロードを100万回以上販売したというマイルストーンを達成した[9]。レーベルマネージャーのDaniel Leeは、「フリーミアムモデルのサービスに似ているが、NCSは音楽を無料で楽しむことができると同時に、ファンが有償サービスを通じて音楽をサポートできるようにする」と語った[10]。ウッドフォードは、「有料ダウンロード数が100万に達したことは非常に誇りで、NCSが長年培ってきた成長力と強みを示していると思います。また、クリエイターからの新鮮なオリジナル音楽の需要は膨大で、毎日増えています」とコメントしている[9][14][15]。

2021年7月16日現在、YouTubeチャンネル登録者数は約3000万人である[16][17][18][19]。

また、2021年11月13日現在、Youtubeチャンネルで公開されている1億回再生以上の曲は、以下の通り17曲ある。(尚、1億回再生以上だったAlan Walkerの曲Fade、Spectre、Forceは著作権などの問題により2021年11月13日に非公開にされた)
