リンダ・ルイス（Linda Lewis）として知られるリンダ・アン・フレデリックス（Linda Ann Fredericks、1950年9月27日 - 2023年5月3日）は、イギリスのシンガー、ソングライター、ミュージシャンである。

概要[編集]

シングル「Rock-a-Doodle-Doo」（1973年）とベティ・エヴェレットの「The Shoop Shoop Song」（1975年）のバージョンでよく知られている[1]。ディスコグラフィーには、ソロアルバム『Lark』（1972）、『愛の妖精（Not a Little Girl Anymore）』（1975）、『Woman Overboard』（1977）、後の『Second Nature』（1995）[2]などをリリースし、日本などでも成功を収めた。また、デヴィッド・ボウイ、アル・クーパー、キャット・スティーブンス、スティーヴ・ハーレイ&コックニー・レベル、リック・ウェイクマン、ロッド・スチュワート、ピーター・バーデンス[3]、ハミングバード、ジョーン・アーマトレーディング、ジャミロクワイ[4]などのアーティストにバック・ボーカルを提供した。

彼女は6人兄弟の長女で、そのうち3人は歌手としてのキャリアも持っていた。ルイスは独学でギタリストとキーボード奏者を目指し、ハリー・ニルソン、ビリー・ホリデイ、スモーキー・ロビンソンに影響を受け、ジョニ・ミッチェルなどからもインスピレーションを受けた[3]。彼女の音楽は、フォーク、ファンク、ソウルが融合している。

ルイスは1977年に同じミュージシャンのジム・クリーガンと結婚したが、3年後に離婚している。「特にジムがロッド・スチュワートのバンドに加入した後、私たちはあまりにも離れていて、二人とも浮気をしていた」と後に語っている。2004年、彼女は音楽エージェントのニール・ワーノックと結婚した[5]。

SAG-AFTRA、Equity（UK）、Equity（Ireland）のメンバーであった[6]。晩年のルイスは、ケント州のラムズゲートに住んでいた[7]。

ルイスは2023年5月3日、ウォルサム・アビーの自宅で72歳で死去した[8][9][5]。シンガーソングライターのジョーン・アーマトレイディングはルイスを追悼し、「彼女は美しい声を持っていたし、本当に素敵な人だった」と語った。エヴリシング・バット・ザ・ガールのトレーシー・ソーンとラジオDJのジル・ピーターソンも追悼の言葉を述べた。キャット・スティーヴンスは「リンダ・ルイスが亡くなったと聞いてとても残念だ。彼女は良きソウル・フレンドであり、素晴らしいアーティストだった」とツイートし、「ルイスは、私たちの地上の家の窓辺を数日間優しく訪れ、そして庭に飛び去っていった素晴らしい鳥のようだった」と付け加えた[10]。
