グローバル500表彰（英: Global 500 Roll of Honour）とは、環境への貢献をたたえ、世界の個人や組織を表彰する1987年創設の制度。主体は国際連合の補佐機関、国連環境計画(古英: United Nations Environmental Program 頭字語：UNEP) である。2003年の授与分をもって終了し、2005年より続く表彰は「地球の英雄」を意味する（Champions_of_the_Earth）（英語））。
かつてUNEP事務局長クラウス・テプファー（当時）[1]は次のように述べた。
- 「UNEPグローバル500表彰の受賞者の皆さんは、世界中でますます盛んになりつつある広範で拡大していく環境保護運動に携わっておられます。時間がないと言い、思いやりの欠けた私たちが足を踏み出すのをためらう道を辿ってこられました。グローバル500受賞者の皆さんに敬意を表し、その並外れた功績が他の人々を刺激し感化するよう、私どもは望んでやみません。」（2001年）
受賞者[編集]
成人と若者の2部門を合わせると1987年の創設以来、719件超の個人と組織に授賞した。
- アニル・アガルワル（Anil_Agarwal_(environmentalist)）（英語）：著名な環境保護主義者（インド[2]）
- デビッド・アッテンボロー卿：環境テレビ番組のプロデューサー（イギリス）[3]。
- イデリサ・ボネリー（Idelisa_Bonnelly）：海洋生物学者（ドミニカ共和国）、1987年に世界初のザトウクジラ保護区を設定[4]。
- グロ・ハーレム・ブルントランド：元ノルウェー首相[5]。
- ジミー・カーター：元アメリカ大統領。後にノーベル平和賞を受賞[6][7]。
- ジャック・イヴ・クストー：海洋探検家（フランス）[8]。
- ジェーン・グドール：野生のチンパンジーとヒヒの研究者（イギリス）、ヒト以外の霊長類の生活に洞察をもたらした[9]。
- アンネリサ・キルボーン（Annelisa_Kilbourn）：環境保護活動家（イギリス）、獣医、野生生物の専門家[10]。
- ガブリエル・ルイス＝チャールズ：環境保護主義者（セントルシア）[9]。
- ワンガリ・マータイ：草の根環境団体「グリーンベルト運動[11]」の創設者（ケニア）、後にノーベル平和賞を受賞。
- 原田正純：医学研究者（日本）、水俣病の研究に深く関わった[12]。
- フランシスコ・「チコ」・メンデス：ゴム採取者（ブラジルの）、アマゾンの熱帯雨林を救う戦いで殺害された [13]。
- ジョージ・モンビオット（George_Monbiot）：イギリスのジャーナリスト、研究者[14]。
- スティーブン・O・アンダーセン：（Stephen_O._Andersen）：環境保護論者（アメリカ）、成層圏オゾン保護に取り組む[15]。
- ニキータ・モイセエフ（Nikita_Moiseyev）：『核の冬』の著者（ロシア）、科学者で核戦争の影響の専門家[16]。
- Ken Saro-Wiwa：環境および人権活動家（ナイジェリア）、故郷デルタ地域の環境汚染に抵抗するオゴニ族を主導し処刑された [17]。
- アンドリュー・シモンズ（Andrew_Simmons_(environmentalist)）：環境活動家、教育者[18]。
- セヴァン・スズキ：環境活動家[19]。
