サッシュとは大きく通常は色鮮やかな、肩から反対の臀部へ襷がけで体幹に、或いはベルト状に腰回りに着用されるリボン、ひもである。腰に巻くサッシュは日常で着用されることがあるが、襷掛けのサッシュは儀礼的な場面で着用される。儀礼的なサッシュは、両肩から腹部へと着用するV字状の様式が定まっている。
