Microsoft Internet Explorer 2 (マイクロソフトインターネットエクスプローラツー) 、 (略称 Internet Explorer 2 または MSIE2 、IE2 ) は、マイクロソフトが Windows 95 、Windows NT版を1995年11月22日に、Apple Macintosh、Windows 3.1版を1996年4月に公開したInternet Explorerファミリーのウェブブラウザである^[1]^[2]。このバージョンでは、英語、日本語を含む12の言語でリリースされた。1996年4月までにWindows 95では24言語、Windows 3.1では20言語、Macintoshでは9言語でリリースされた^[2]。このバージョンの時点での市場シェアは、後のバージョンよりはるかに低かった。この時期のIEの市場シェアは、Internet Explorer 3がリリースされる前の、1996年半ばまでに約3〜9％までしか上昇しなかった^[3]^[4]。

歴史

IEは、Netscape Navigatorの特徴の多くを複製し、ブックマークのインポート機能を実装した^[5] 1996年5月にFTP Software社はWindows 3.1向けのInternet Explorer 2.0に対して、様々な技術をマイクロソフトに提供していたと発表した。それには、PPPネットワーク、16ビットの電子メールクライアントなどの技術が含まれていた^[6]。

Mac版

Mac版ージョン、特にバージョン2.1は、の使われ方がソースであることと的でありの内容からることで賞賛された^[5]。Internet Explorerは、AVIおよびQuickTime形式のビデオとAIFF、MIDIおよびWAV形式のオーディオを含む、Webページへの多数のマルチメディア形式の埋め込みをサポートしていた^[5]。ベータ版ではない最終バージョンは3か月後の1996年4月23日にリリースされた^[要出典]。バージョン2.1ではバグを修正して、安定性を向上させつつ、同時にNPAPI（Internet Explorerがこれに対応するのは初）やQuickTime VRのサポートなどの新機能もいくつかの追加した^[5]。AOL 3.0 for Macintoshは、内蔵のWebブラウザにIE 2.1の描画エンジンを使用していた。
