HATネット
HATネット(Hungarian Automated Telescope Network, ハンガリー自動望遠鏡ネットワーク)とは、食検出法による太陽系外惑星の発見を目的とした観測網である。全自動式の6台の小型望遠鏡から構成され、ハーバード・スミソニアン天体物理学センターによって維持・管理されている。
ハンガリーの小規模グループが開発を主導したため、名称にハンガリーを冠している。計画は1999年に立ち上げられ、2001年5月から本格的な観測を開始した[1]。初の惑星は2006年に公表され、以降は年間数個のペースで惑星を報告し続けている。
2002年には運用を終了したROTSE-IIプロジェクトからハードウェアの貸与を受け、新世代の観測ネットワークへの更新が進んだ。ROTSE-IIはガンマ線バースト残光の自動観測を目的とし、HATNetに似た観測システムを運用していた。2002年には新型観測システムの原型機であるHAT-5が開発された。第一世代の望遠鏡が200mm F2.8カメラレンズを使用していたのに対し、HAT-5ではより大口径かつ高画質の200mm F1.8レンズに更新し、架台の指向精度やソフトウェアも改良された。2003年9月にはHAT-5と同仕様の量産型であるHAT-6とHAT-7がフレッド・ローレンス・ホイップル天文台天文台に設置された。さらに同年11月にはマウナケア天文台群に同型機を2台設置した[2]。
2009年からは、オーストラリア、ナミビア、チリの3つの望遠鏡もHATネットに加わった。こちらは南半球でのHATネットという意味でHAT-Southと呼ばれている。従来のHATネットの望遠鏡で発見された系外惑星には、後述の通り「HAT-P-1b」などという名称を与えているが、HAT-Southで発見されたものについては「HATS-1b」のように名称を区別している。
成果
[編集]HATネット計画は、2021年12月までにNorthで74個、Southで77個の合計151個の系外惑星をトランジット法で発見している。HAT-P-11c、HAT-P-13c、HAT-P-17cは、HATネットが検出した惑星を視線速度法で観測した際に新たに発見された天体である。
「スーパーWASP」はHATネットと競合する関係にあり、同一の惑星を2つのチームがそれぞれ独立して発見する出来事が何度か起きている。WASP-11b/HAT-P-10b、HAT-P-27b/WASP-40b、HAT-P-30b/WASP-51bの3つの惑星にはスーパーWASPとHATネットの両方から名前が与えられている。
