Today's articles for improvement project

On the English Wikipedia, we started a project called TAFI. Each week we identify underdeveloped articles that require improvement. Our goal is to use widespread collaborative editing to improve articles to Good article, Featured article or Featured list quality over a short time frame.

This is all about improving important articles in a collaborative manner, and also inspiring readers of Wikipedia to also try editing. We think it is a very important and interesting idea that will make Wikipedia a better place to work. It has been very successful so far, and the concept has spread to the Hindi Wikipedia where it has been well received.

こんにちは。個人活動助成金制度では、新しいことを試すために資金を必要とする方々からの助成金申請を、9月1日から30日まで受け付けています。対象となるアイデアはたとえば、新しいツールやガジェットを作ってウィキメディア・プロジェクト群を改善する、自分のウィキのコミュニティの発展を支えるプロセスの改善、重要な問題について調査する、などですが、他にもまだ誰も考えついていない種類のものもあるでしょう。

必要なのが200ドルであっても3万ドルであっても、個人活動助成金では自分自身の企画遂行のための時間に加え、他の人を雇う資金もカバーできます。

Change in renaming process

統一ログイン(SUL)への完全移行の目標は、すべてのウィキメディア編集者が単一の、すべてのプロジェクトで認識されるグローバルなアカウントを使えるようにすることです。既にご存知かもしれませんが、大きな遅延ののち、統一ログインへの完全移行が現在、各言語版のビューロクラットやスチュワード、ウィキメディア財団のエンジニアらの努力によって進行中です。これによって、グローバルな通知やウォッチリストなど、複数のwikiにまたがったツールの開発が可能になります。現時点では完全移行完了の具体的な期日は決まっていません。

これにはすべての名前変更プロセスを一つのグローバルな名前変更プロセスにまとめるという作業が関係しています。そのための第一歩として、当wikiのローカルのビューロクラットのユーザー名変更の権限は、2014年9月15日(月)をもって終了します。グローバルアカウント名変更者は現在作成中で、それまでにはすべてのプロジェクトと各言語版において確実に存在するようにしているところです。全てのビューロクラットには、3週間前にこのプロセスについてのお知らせをお送りしております。このお知らせには、当プロジェクトへの招待状が添付されており、すでに多くの人たちがこのグループに加わるべくリクエストを始めています。グローバルアカウント名変更者はスチュワードとともに、編集者がグローバルな名前を得るという、時として難しいプロセスがうまく行くように協力します。

もしまだアカウント統合を完了していない場合、アカウント統合をご覧ください。ローカルwikiにある改名手続きについてのページの情報が古く、更新が必要でしたら、ぜひそれを行った上で、他の方々には今後の改名リクエストについてm:SRUCを参照するようお知らせください。もし何か質問がありましたら、メタウィキのヘルプページにも情報があります。mediawiki.org上で、技術的な進捗状況もご確認いただけます。またいつでもメタウィキ上で私にご質問いただいてもかまいません。お時間をいただきありがとうございました。

VisualEditor available on Internet Explorer 11

VisualEditor will become available to users of Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 during today's regular software update. Support for some earlier versions of Internet Explorer is being worked on. • There was a problem on the English Wikipedia on September 19. It was due to edits on a template used on many pages.
• Sites were down for users in the Pacific area around 7:00 UTC on September 20. It was due to a problem in the San Francisco data center.
• There were two bad bugs messing up articles in some browsers in VisualEditor. We fixed the bugs and updated the sites. [21] [22]

Software changes this week

• The new version of MediaWiki (1.24wmf22) is on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since September 18. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis on September 23, and on all Wikipedias on September 25 (calendar).
• If you have more than 2000 notifications, the oldest ones will be removed.[23] [24]
• In the "Vector" skin, the icon used for users will show a neutral gender. [25] [26]
• The VisualEditor template tool now tells you if a required field is missing. [27]
• The "Cancel" button of the VisualEditor save window is now called "Resume editing". This shows that you can still edit and you won't lose your changes. [28]
• There are new keyboard shortcuts in VisualEditor. Use Ctrl+Shift+6 for code and Ctrl+Shift+5 for strikethrough. [29] [30]
• In VisualEditor, you can now see that you are switching to the source editing mode. Before, it was not clear it was happening. [31]

Recent changes

• You can use the phab: and phabricator: interwikis to link to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org. [43] [44]
• Some wikis have a template to track bugs in Bugzilla. You should update it to work with Phabricator. You can look at the one on mediawiki.org to see how. [45] [46]
• You can look at Special:MediaStatistics to see what kind of files are on your wiki. [47]
• A new tool can now create thumbnails of large TIFF images. This concerns files larger than 50 megapixels. These thumbnails are also sharpened. You can comment on Commons. [48]

TemplateData editor soon available on this Wikipedia

Hello, my apologies for writing this announcement in English. A tool for editing TemplateData will be deployed to this wiki on Thursday, 9 October. This tool makes it easier to add TemplateData to the template's documentation (or to change it). You will be able to use it by editing the template's documentation page and clicking the テンプレートデータを編集 button at the top. You can test the TemplateData editor now in a sandbox at Mediawiki.org. Please see more detailed instructions at Mediawiki.org (those can be translated there, and also imported on this wiki later if you need to).
