Hello everybody, 始めまして!☆
I have contacted some of you because of the questionnaire I have compiled for my master thesis. If you have any questions and/or comments and do not want to email me, please leave a comment. Everybody else is of course also invited to say hi! ;) -- OkonomiyakiNeri(会話) 2012年9月4日 (火) 12:59 (UTC)
Hi! OkonomiyakiNeri!
[編集]Hi! OkonomiyakiNeri, an interesting theme about Wikipedia. I am interested in the translation of Wikipedia articles, especially from Japanese to English, but I am afraid I am not qualified to be a translator since I have different ideas about translation. Because of cultural differences and the rules of Wikipedia, my translation is far from word-to-word translation, and you will understand if you read some of the articles I have translated. --Ichiro Kikuchi(会話) 2013年1月7日 (月) 20:29 (UTC)
- the articles I have started translationg into English:GA:江戸の火事*熊本県の歴史*田の神*矢数道明*小林ハル*小松 (料亭)*勧進*皇居の生物相*中川の箒スギ*古川沼*曾良旅日記:FA:*松江騒擾事件 --Ichiro Kikuchi(会話) 2013年1月9日 (水) 01:27 (UTC)
- Hi Ichiro Kikuchi! Thanks for writing me! I will take a look at your translations as soon as possible! I already quite like the fact though, that your translations are far from word-to-word, because that is exactly what I think a good translation is supposed to be. Of course not too far away, at least not, when you translate for "real world" clients, because they will not like it a lot (I can tell you...), but in the end, translation is a transfer of meaning, not a transfer of words. The meaning of a text is what makes the text, not the words...may I ask you if you could answer my questionnaire, even if you do not think you qualify as a translator? I'd like to gather as many opinions as possible and "differend ideas about translation" sounds great to me. And, if it is ok for you, we can talk a bit about your ideas besides the questionnaire? Cheers, -- OkonomiyakiNeri(会話) 2013年1月9日 (水) 10:52 (UTC)
- I will try. However, I am 76 years old, and I started writing in 2007. --Ichiro Kikuchi(会話) 2013年1月9日 (水) 19:52 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! When you answer the questionnaire, you will see that the answers to my age question does not include the age group 70-79...I am very sorry, this is rather embarrasing now, I hope you don't mind too much! -- OkonomiyakiNeri(会話) 2013年1月9日 (水) 21:46 (UTC)
- I have sent my answers with blanks, so I am afraid my answers have not reached you. Any other means of sending answers ? --Ichiro Kikuchi(会話) 2013年1月10日 (木) 11:22 (UTC)
- Recently I have been interested in the rating. Of various articles I have translated, the best score was 松江騒擾事件. --Ichiro Kikuchi(会話) 2013年1月10日 (木) 11:45 (UTC)
- Hi Ichiro Kikuchi! I think your answers have reached me, please don't worry! I took a look at your translation of the Kobayashi Haru article and I have to say, I really like it! You completely translated the important parts and gave a summary of other parts that are not very important but can't be left out because something would be missing...am I right? I have to admit that I did not read and compare the whole translation because the subject and the kanji are very hard to understand for me...>< I will take a look at your other articles later and I will choose one article and compare its English and Japanese version thoroughly! :) Can you tell me what you mean by "rating"? I know there is the article feedback system with which you can rate Wikipedia articles, but there are no ratings on your English translation of 松江騒擾事件 yet...so what do you refer to? Thanks and greetings from Vienna :) -- OkonomiyakiNeri(会話) 2013年1月18日 (金) 14:09 (UTC)
- Hello! Matsue Incident (English) has been rated as B-Class on the project's quality scale. The Japanese version has been rated as FA. The rating was naturally made of the article improved by many persons. --Ichiro Kikuchi(会話) 2013年1月19日 (土) 06:50 (UTC)

- Hello! I am afraid I am asking you too much efforts. What I want to know is, concernig Japan-related articles, what principle is preferred or important when there is the same article both in English and Japanese. One of my earlier contributions was 宮古島島民遭難事件 and I translated it into English. Let's discuss this article, since this article appeared in other languages, too. --Ichiro Kikuchi(会話) 2013年1月19日 (土) 22:56 (UTC)
- HI Ichiro Kikuchi! Please do not think I forget about you! I am very busy at the moment, but I will take a look at the article and discuss it with you as soon as possible! I am sorry for the late reply! I hope you are not angry with me! Greetings, -- OkonomiyakiNeri(会話) 2013年2月7日 (木) 17:04 (UTC)
- It's nice to discuss various matters. I am prepared to discuss topics of your interest. Please specify them. By the way, one of my daughters lives in Berlin and we paid a visit to your country once. --Ichiro Kikuchi(会話) 2013年2月9日 (土) 11:21 (UTC)
